Someone to Lean On
Francine Murray is an 82 year old retired secretary who has lived in her family home for most of her life. She had lived with her mother in the family home until her mother passed away two years. She lived independently and has been able to manage her life without much problem for many years. She never married, has no children and the closest relative is a nephew who lives out of town.
LCI (Life Care Innovations, Inc.) met Ms. Murray through a Trust Officer who had begun working with Ms. Murray to assist with her financial management. It became apparent that Ms. Murray needed some assistance in the home and that the home itself needed some upgrades. Ms. Murray also appeared tired, distracted and unkempt during the visit. Ms. Murray, until very recently, had been trying to manage all of her health care, life care and financial matters on her own. This is a woman who has been very self reliant and very independent for a very long time. However, at this time Francine Murray needed help!
LCI scheduled a meeting with Ms. Murray and during the initial assessment Ms. Murray complained of lower back pain and of feeling very tired. She had also noticed some short term memory problems and forgetfulness. LCI immediately contacted the primary care physician and Ms. Murray was eventually admitted to the hospital for testing and observation. Following numerous tests and procedures Ms. Murray was diagnosed with ovarian cancer with metastasis, her prognosis was poor.
LCI quickly went into action and coordinated all of the appropriate health care items, medical equipment, caregiver/hospice services and home upgrades needed to keep Ms. Murray comfortable in her home. It was Ms. Murray's wish to stay in her home for as long as possible. Ms. Murray had no family and needed much assistance with her healthcare, life care and home management issues.
LCI continues to coordinate and manage health care and life care services for Ms. Murray. LCI also continues to keep in touch with her nephew who lives out of town, as well as other involved persons. Ms. Murray is well taken care of and is thankful that she is able to live for the remaining time in her family home. A strong health care team is in place and Ms. Murray is reassured that she is not alone, especially during this trying time. back. . .
